An open letter to the world

I am a 30 something year old female who doesnt have perfect health. I have battled with a liver disease for over 10 years. I don’t share this with everyone as I don’t want sympathy. I will be Ok.

This Covid- 19- or Corona Virus as it is better know- has taken over the world. I have heard many, many people say that “Ah, its just a bad dose of flu, i’ll be fine” To many of you, yes it is and you will be, but to the people in the world without great immune systems, or the elderly we may not be as lucky.

Speaking for myself and not for anyone else, my daily life revolves around washing hands, sanitizing, taking medications and generally feeling terrible. Now, add a virus that is spreading exceptionally fast, idiotic people who believe they are immune to catching it and bam we are at more of a risk.

My estate where I personally live does not even have one bottle of sanitizer at the gate. I have it in my bag, my car, my house, my husbands vehicle as well as each of my boys carry a small bottle around so we are doing our best, but….. The gate sanitizer is not for us… It is for every domestic, gardener, delivery person, builder, etc that come into our estate could potentially be carrying this virus. Our homes are all close together so passing this virus will be exceptionally easy to do. We a friendly estate where we socialise with our neighbours.

Many, actually 99% of the other estates in our area, all have sanitizer at the gates, the gaurds have medical gloves and the don’t let you in witout gloves. Proactivness at its best!

Every shop has handwipes at the entrance to clean your hands, basket or trolley.

Detol cannot even confirm if their product works so please don’t be narrow minded and assume it works. All you doing is wasting your time and money. NCID have confirmed to kill germs you need to sanitise with at least a 65% alcohol sanitizer. Remember what they say about people who ASS-U-ME?

So please, do the right thing and don’t panic but sanitise properly. You may not get Covid-19 badly but you could pass it on to someone who may.

Enough from me for now but please consider everyone around you. Sanitize and wash your hands often, keep a 2.5m distance between yourself and another person, no shaking hands, hugging or kissing or sharing any utensils, water bottles etc. Together we can get through this pandemic.

Classic Cirque Rock

Yay, we went the the Barnyard theatre at Suncoast this evening! What a treat!

I woke up this morning and realised I got scratch cards from our dinner at Mc Donalds. I did what i needed to do and got the options. Travel, family, entertainment were but a few. I chose entertainment and the option was Suncoast Barnyard 2 for 1 special.

Knowing my husband was not a great fan of theatre I was a little worried to suggest we go. I thought about it and suggested we go with Warrens parents- Trevor and Cheryl. They jumped to the chance to go. Warren was still a bit skeptical.

We all arranged what food we would take. I did a cold roast chicken, baby potatoes and some meilies. Cheryl did thin wors, boiled eggs, cheese and rolls. What a feast for 4 people!

We got there around 19:30 and made our way to the door. We were greeted by Calvin and his wonderful team. We were given our wristbands with our seat numbers G6-G9.

The show started at 20:00 sharpe. The ring man Themba January was every bit the host. Confident and talented.

There was a band that consisted of Jaydine Barron on the keyboard, Tumelo Tipenyani on bass, Kristo Zontag on drums and Jason Guile on Guitar. They were having the best time on stage! Talented guys doing what they love as a team. What more can you ask for?

The aerial artists Sam Kotze and Chivonne Naude, has the audience captivated with their jaw- dropping, breathe holding moves. These ladies work perfectly together as a team.

Sam and Chivonne doing their thing!

Vocals were phenominal! Themba January, Zoe Townsend and guitar singer Jason Guile took our breathes away singing songs like, Black-eyed Peas Tonights gonna be a good night, Queens Flash Gordon, The Greatest Showman plus many more! You just wanted to stand up and dance! A few ladies did just that…. On the tables! Oh what Fun! To be honest, personally Zoey sang Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance better then Lady Gaga herself!

Dancers Nick Vries, Hoze Jonas and Simone Youlton, helped get us in the mood to move our hips. Their perfectly choreagraphed moves were the perfect last piece of this puzzle.

It is clear to see each and everyone get on like a big, happy family. To get perfection like that comes with a lot of dedication, respect and hardwork.

Well done guys! The only thing I would change is my own mistake…. I want to get closer next time!

Enjoy your tour and give it horns!

This show is highly reccommended. Be warned; You will loose control of your hands and feet and may find yourself singing along to a song or two!

The show is running from the 12th March – 19 April at Suncoast Barnyard theatre. Price R180 per adult. Sunday R140. And Tuesdays buy one get one Free!

Concha delights

For a few months I have been craving a good, no wait, a great Prego roll.

Obviously, I haven”t been living under a rock and have heard of Concha before. My husband took me there for breakfast one Valentines day a few years ago. I really enjoyed my breakfast and it wasnt too badly priced. I am not sure why I never went back?

I called my friend Kate today to wish her Happy Birthday and she mentioned she was at Concha having brunch. She sent me a picture of her lunch…. It was a prego roll!!

I called and ordered 1x chicken prego burger, 1 x beef prego burger, 1x bubblegum yum milkshake and 1 x iced coffee. The lady took my number and told me it will be 15 minutes.

I was almost there when my phone rang. “Hi Amy, just letting you know your order is ready” came the friendly voice across the phone. “I am passing Mac Donalds” I replied.

Concha is a petite, little place near the beach. It is evident that people love it there. People is groups chatting away to their friends, a man on his laptop, another reading the newspaper and an elderly man walking around aimlessly.

I was greeted by a lovely lady who at once asked if I was Amy. My order was waiting for me. I paid and was about to leave when my phone rang….

I had one hand to carry my car keys, 2 drinks and a brown bag of food. This is going to be fun!

The lady who took my order offered to help me carry it all to the car. But t]he one manager insisted he would help me. He opened my door for me, let me get in and comfortable then passed the food packet over.

I got home and immediatly opened the container with the chips. They arent long chips as usual but round ones. They come with chip salt and extra prego sauce. The prego rolls were divine. I shared half- half with Warren.

“This is what a prego roll is supposed to taste like”, he said with a mouthful!

Amazing chips and prego rolls

.
The iced coffee and bubblegum yum milkshakes were also amazing! The perfect combination of everything.

An easy treat at Easy Treats take away.

For my husband and I, we really enjoy our curries. Not too hot but also not a stew.

We have tried many places in Ballito, but nothing has really caught our fancy. Too hot….To mild…. That was until we tried out Easy Treat take away in Sandra road.

Easy Treats Take- away

Firstly, as you walk in you are greeted by Preshen! What a lovely guy, friendly, always smiling and ready to help!

He does not rush you to make your order and is talkative. He knows his regulars by name, which I know is very important in a business. It gives you a sense of home.

The menu is big and prices are very reasonable. There are 2 people working in the petite kitchen who are just as friendly. I have always had respect for people who work in hot kitchens in the middle of summer.

Once my order arrived, he politely asked if I would like anything else. I say “no thank you, all good thanks” and I start on my journey home….

Bunny chows

The smells coming from those polystyrene containers!!!!!… AMAZING!

I finally got home and opened up… 1 x lamb roti. 1 x lamb curry and rice and 2 chip and cheese rotis…

The first mouthful…. “Oh my word…. This is amazing!” It has the burn but it also has all the flavours. After a few glasses of Coke later and my lamb roti was gone. No trace that it even existed! Gone!

Burgers

Tender meat, full of flavour and so filling.

Thank you Preshen and team! We will definately be back again.

So ladies and gentlemen. I HIGHLY reccomend Easy Treats.

They do curries, bunnies, rotis, tikka chicken, burgers, hot chips. Samoosas, chilli bites and more!

A dream in Riebeek Kasteel

Who has been to this magic place? The beauty of the surrounds, the crispness of their wines, the many amazing flavours of their olives and the friendliness of the people.

All along the main road, there are many beautiful shops and to my left is the Royal Hotel. Their gin and tonics are divine- and big!

I turn right and head down Royal street to my parents home/ photo gallery.

They have called the gallery Pictorex after my late brother Rex, who tragically died in a car accident in 2003.

The beautiful Pictorex Fine Art Gallery

Pictorex, is a fine art photo gallery in Riebeek Kasteel. My dad, Willliam and my mom, Mary, take a range of the most beautiful pictures. They range from landscapes to birds, to birds, to bees, to flowers and even mice!

A few of Mary’s beautiful Birds in Flight photographs

My mom has always got her camera on hand. Whether she is sitting relaxing on their patio which over looks the most beautiful church, or sitting at a family gathering. You can be sure her camera is nearby.

A few of William and Mary’s landscape photographs

My dad enjoys taking breath-taking landscape photographs. While he is not taking pictures, he is printing them in his studio. Each picture is made sure to be perfect before printing. This can take hours!

My parents also run Pictorex Apartment. This is an Air bnb. They charge R1000 per night for the room. This has on en suite bathroom and walking distance to the town centre.

Snakey fun at Ndlondlo Reptile Park

Snakes have never been my thing. They are slithery, slimy and they just freak me out!

That was until recently……

On a recent visit to Ndlondlo Reptile Park in Ballito, I nearly jumped out of my pale white skin….. No, not because of a snake but because of a pot plant! Yes, you read that right….

While looking around at all the amazing, slimy creatures I stood back and a huge leaf from said pot plant touched my shoulder! I nearly did a back flip and ran for my life! I turned around and breathed a sigh of relief and a tad of embatrassment as I realised what it was, while the others were giggling. I must admit it must’ve been rather funny.

From walking into the Reptile Park you are welcomed with open arms.

Neville and Helen have been married for just over a year. Their love for each other is so strong and share that love for any creature great and small. They have been involved in snake catches for well over 30 years.

Helen and Neville Wolmarans

Neville and two guys who work for them, have been creative in making bigger cages for the snakes. They make sure that the snakes they catch are checked fully for ticks, injuries, eggs and malnutrition. They are kept in the large cages until they are ready to be released into the wild again.

Helen, who also gets involved with captures, is working hard on getting the petting zoo Thumpers Playground up and running. The love this couple have for animals and wildlife is amazing.

They go out all hours of the day and night in their 16 year old Hyundai Getz and go to places the police won’t even go too! Talk about dedication!

Bearded Dragon
Neville with a black mamba that was caught by himself
Helen’s hairy Tarantula
A lazy croc waiting for his lunch

Helen was showing around some new visitors when Neville’s cell phone rings…. Duty calls and Neville gets up and tootles off on a mission for what sounds like a big black mamba!

The kids, and I am certain many adults, will love Ndlondlo Snake park and Thumpers Playground.

A huge majority of their call outs are for the less fortunate which means they cannot pay for the call out, but there is not a chance they would sleep knowing a snake or human are in danger.

They also do birrhday parties, snake conservation and first aid talks as well as educational bug hunts at night!

Thank you for having me at your amazing Park, because of you two, my two boys have snakes that they love. Please keep up the amazing work and I highly reccomend a visit.

Entrance is R80 adults and R50 children. As most of the time the caller can’t afford the call out, the entry fee covers the petrol and anything needed to look after the reptile.

TUWA Spa Spoils

So, today while visiting a good friend of mine she mentioned she was going to have her nails done at Tuwa at Sugar Rush Park here in Ballito.

After my meeting, I went and got some breakfast and met her at Tuwa around the corner from Digs Kitchen.

I was greeted by Helen who was sitting having her bright orange nails done by Phumzile.

Helen mentioned that they were practising and needed another pair of hands…. “Yippee, this is my day” I thought. “Of course I’d like to be your Guinea pig”

I went inside and spoke to Letitia who owns Tuwa Ballito. She is a young, pretty lady who was more then happy to assist me.

I waited for Helen to finish having her nails done. Phumzile, who has only been doing acrylic nails for one month, worked quietly, but after only one month, I personally think she did a good job with great potential.

Helens nails were done and it was now my turn! Up Hels got and we swopped places!

Sbahle’s turn was up! She sat down and organised herself. Sterilized all utensils, got her tips. colours chosen and she was ready!

Any of you who know me, know that having my nails done is not something I usually do. Firstly. Patience is NOT a strong point and secondly, its an expense we cannot afford. That makes today even more special.

All ready, Sbahle started on my nails. Cutting, filing, buffering, polishing, filing some more, sticking gold decorations on and finally all done. I personally enjoyed Sbahle as she was happy, laughing and talkative. With 3 months experience, again, so much potential.

The beautiful Sbahle

I was so relaxed and enjoyed every minute of being pampered, I decided to have my eye brows waxed while I was there.

Letitia, did my eye brows. Usually I jump and get watery- eyed, but she was gentle. There was no screaming, flinching or watery-eyes.

I truely believe that Tuwa is a gem on the North Coast. From their happy personalities to their beautiful Spa.

Inside their beautiful Spa
I love this wall

They sell gorgegous sandals, nail polishes, creams etc.

They don’t only do manicures and pedicures but waxing. Hair braids, massages and more!
